Creating art at CHATEAU DU PIN

I was born into a sprawling French-American family that holds some of its history in a big stone house in Anjou, France. Since 2004, my husband, David Summer and I have been facilitating art retreats at Chateau du Pin (CdP), Champtoce sur Loire.  Le Pin is a magical setting for artistic exploration. The chateau, a 16th century fortified old manor house, sits on 300 acres that includes vineyards, farms, woodlands, and distinctive formal gardens. The property, a rustic blend of old stone and grand vistas, has been a vacation rental for over 35 years.  Le Pin is full of eccentricity and charm. I enjoy interpreting Le Pin with the purpose of MAKING ART.  Over the years, we have organized small and large groups, collaborating with other teaching artists to offer writing, cooking, bookmaking, painting, yoga, music, and mixed media workshops.  I have been inviting artists who come with independent projects into my workshop sessions at Le Pin for many seasons. We are  now offerring the Le Pin Cottage Residency - each session limited to three people.

WHAT I OFFER

Live in a 400 year old stone cottage, walk up the hill and fall inside the L’orangerie Studios at Chateau du Pin. Spread out your paper, paint, cloth, glue, ink, screens and threads! Enjoy access to world class gardens on Le Pin’s 350-acre estate. Walk the vineyards, fields and woodland trails.  Hop a train from Champtoce to visit Nantes or Angers and visit marvelous museums, castles & cathedrals. We will stock your cottage with breakfast and lunches, serve you delicious pop-up suppers in Le Pin’s gardens, on the Loire or at the Vintners Cottage.

$3,500 per person. Limit of 3 artists per session.

Studios: L’orangerie and/or Salle de Reves Studios at Chateau du Pin

The studio wing of Chateau du Pin has ground floor private entrances for Artists, with south facing tall windows looking into Le Pin’s Topiary Gardens. The gorgeous views bring in the breeze. It is rustique! High ceilings and thick stone keep the studios cool in summer. Wooden window shutters can block intensive light as needed.  Working pleine-aire? We have large garden umbrellas and easels. Toilet and sinks in Rooks Tower and at nearby Chateau Garden Entrance. 

As a family-owned estate, Chateau du Pin has been hosting artists, writers, musicians for generations. Art Pluriel has been creating pop up studios at the chateau and outbuildings since 2004. We have seen the value of building a temporary artist circle that brings in new perspectives and enduring friendships.

Pop Up Studios, The Petit and Grand Salon will serve as communal gathering places as well as pop up studios, as needed, to accommodate writers and or stitchers.

Housing
Marie’s Cottage (La Fionnaie) located ¼ mile from Le Pin. A charming 400 year old stone cottage (owned and renovated by my cousin, Marie) has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, kitchen, dining room and outdoor furnished patio. WIFI.

Dining
Connections happen in the studio and at the table. We will stock your cottage with breakfast and lunches, serve you delicious pop-up suppers in Le Pin’s gardens, on the Loire or at the Vintners Cottage. We provide 3 meals daily featuring bio-dynamique vegetables and fruits from Le Pin’s bursting potager. Resident artists / writers will enjoy local cheeses, fresh breads, meat, poultry and fish served daily.  Local wine available for purchase, including white & red wines from Le Pin’s vineyards.

Le Pin is classified as a Monument Historique. It’s award winning gardens, farmlands, vineyards and woodland trails, offer a blend of beauty and spaciousness that is distinctive. It is alive with history and full of romantic quirks. Le Pin has endured for many centuries and that is what you breathe in; time and a place to dream.
