What is wrap Your head around it?

Fabric when properly activated has remarkable social and spiritual range. Its very structure contains the inherent power to combine and connect.

Wrap Your Head Around It is an interdisciplinary arts project that links text with textile through community action. Wrap’s fundamental goal: the making of 200 hand dyed and printed scarves with and for the cancer community. In this community arts project, I developed partnerships with cancer patients and survivors; hospitals; community artists and individuals; universities and colleges; textile businesses; galleries; and cancer patient support organizations. The first edition of 200 scarves was funded by a Kickstarter campaign, Autumn 2014. The project began with 10 weeks of creative writing sessions at the Cancer Center, Duke Hospital, Durham, NC.  Subsequent surface design activities included silk dyeing,  printing, and stitching in pop-up studios in Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, NC.  Scarves were routed to folks all over the country. WRAP: Edition 1 was completed in June 2015.
